Costa Rica Heritage: Tales of Beans

One man believe it or not started the coffee industry in Costa Rica. He used the money from his success to start and found the church in Costa Rica also.

He was born a noble white baby in London: William Le Lacheur, an Englishman was born on 15 October 1802 and was very early baptized with the name Guillaume Le Lacheure Allez). He got his name from his grand parents. Incredible how well the English do.

William founded the Costa Rica coffee industry by establising the world trade markets with Europe and setting up the shipping lanes. He set up an European trading route that took all the Costa Rica coffee to market. William grew up rather quietly in England but did grow a like for ships and shipping. He married Rachel in 1828 in a church wedding.Since they were not drinking coffee after dinner they played in bed and finished up with five children: his children Amelia, John, Louisa, Emma, and Rachel.

He started his company by buying a ship. Now he had to find something to ship. The year was 1829.After sailing for 3 years and building a excellent shipping route and building up some capital to expand his shipping business he chose to expand his business. He bought a larger ship the Minerva to carry more coffee. By 1836, he had formed a company Le Lacheur & Co, which owned two ships: Minerva & Dart. He entered the fruit trade which required quicker ships; quicker routes and more money. Over the following years, he continued to add to his fleet, and seek out new markets. In 1841 he bought his first ship. The Monarch was a much larger vessel capable of journeys furthers a field. With longer journeys he was able to expand his trade and his routes. During a stop at the port of Mazatlan, on the Pacific coast of Mexico, he learnt that the Costa Rican gourmet coffee growers were having in finding a market for their produce. He chose to investigate.

Since their independence in 1839, Costa Rica found no regular trade routes for their fruit or coffee in the European markets. This was compounded by transportation problems within the country. The farms were too far from the coast or too close to the Pacific Coast {remember no Panama Canal at this time). The coffee-growing areas were located in the central part of the country, and it was impossible, because of the mountains and the rainy forest, to send the coffee to the Caribbean Sea and therefore to the Atlantic. It made sense to sail the coffee directly to England from the Atlantic side versus going around South America from the west Pacific as was currently done. Further hampering them was Costa Rica had no internal railroad system.

William saw a huge business opportunity – as he had fallen in like with the Costa Rica coffee and knew it would sale well in Europe. He signed a treat with the coffee growers to haul the coffee to London on a regular basis. In 1843 the firsh ship carried away 5000 pounds of coffee. He had to buy more and more ships to handle the demand for the worlds greatest coffee. During the rest of the 1840s, he diverted his other ships from the fruit trade to the coffee trade. In 1850 he bought 5 more ships. During the 1860s, a further seven ships were added to the fleet. Le Lacheur made a significan impact on Costa Rica in many ways.

Church coffee Le Lacheur, a devout Christian, was appalled by what he described “the lowest form of the Roman faith” being practiced where superstition took precedence over right religion. He sent many bibles across the countryside – helping spread the church throughout Costa Rica. He handled out over 4000 bibles – which he received his reward in heaven. While the Us in 1864 was involved in a civil war, Costa Rica was building Protestent churches across the country. It was made of pre-fabricated iron, was carried to Costa Rica by Le Lacheur’s son John and was assembled in San Jos?s the Church of the Excellent Shepherd which founded the start of evangelism everywhere in Costa Rica. It became unofficially known as the ‘Iron Church’. He started the protestent church which remodeled his first church in 1937. Le Lacheur not only exported coffee but formal education too. He sent many children to London to get a more formal education. This caused a huge boom in the success of the Costa Rica economy.

This arrangement was also responsible for the introduction of soccer to Costa Rica. Through this Le Lacheur has also been credited with contributing to Costa Rica national team qualifying for the 2002 FIFA World Cup [1]. In 1856 Costa Rica declared WAR. They stoped the invasion quickly and went back to growing coffee. But, the march from the Costa Rican military base in San Jos?bove them was very perilous. He used his ship to not only to export coffee but also loaned them to the Navy for battles. As a result, they successfully repelled the filibusters.Hewas buried in London in a nice cementary against his wishes to be buried in Costa Rica. There is a Memorial to Captain William Le Lacheur of Guernsey in the Church of the Excellent Shepherd, San Jos?Costa Rica. He even had postage names done of him in Costa Rica and London. Costa Rica Coffee: Captain William Le Lacheur of Guernsey started thefirst practice of farming of gourmet coffee in Costa Rica. With over 100 years of practice they now produce the finest gourmet coffee in the world. Costa Rica – the finest gourmet coffee.

Great Tasting DIY Travel Latte

Traveling with a portable latte making kit probably seems crazy, but to those of us for whom quality caffeine consumption equals joy and functionality it’s something to consider.

I live near Seattle and for years suffered quality coffee depravation (QCD) when traveling. Those fantastic espresso shops that manage to survive on every block in the Northwest and the San Francisco Bay area quickly thin to nothing in other parts of the country, and except for bastions of coffee enlightenment like France and Italy may be impossible to find elsewhere in the world. Certainly, other parts of the world have long coffee traditions but their coffee is generally a different drink entirely, and alien to the palette.

The attempt by Starbucks to spread through the known universe has made the situation somewhat simpler, introducing decent coffee into many nooks and crannies, but Starbucks is not yet ubiquitous, nor is it generally available in room.

For years my solution was to travel with quality tea. Tea can be quite excellent. Tea satisfies caffeine cravings. And, quality tea offers a subtle complexity that soothes the soul. But, tea is not coffee, and when I want that coffee intensity, nothing else will do.

Forget those in-room coffee makers that hotels and motels offer. The pre-packaged, weak and bitter brew they produce is nothing more than a caffeine fix. It wakes the body but brings no joy. Fine hotels generally serve quality coffee but the extra cost of the room is a high, high price to pay for a decent cup of coffee. What to do?

Fortunately, with some simple and relatively portable and inexpensive equipment, along with a microwave oven, now common in lodgings, it is possible to make a more than passable imitation of the coffee house classic. Here’s what you’ll need.

A portable coffee brewer. For years I used a plastic press pot also called a French press. Glass is nicer but is too fragile to travel with. That’s the simplest solution. Bring your own coffee, unfortunately pre-ground, but you can’t have everything. Zap a cup of water in the microwave and a couple of minutes later you have redemption.

The press pot has been replaced in my kit by a device called an AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker. The AeroPress looks like a hypodermic designed for a dinosaur. Instead of a needle, though, the coffee maker has a perforated flat end that holds a coffee filter. The AeroPress has one real advantage over a traditional press pot. It’s much simpler and less messy to clean. And the coffee it makes is more like an espresso shot, tasting quit different from the brew the press pot produces. Both are excellent. They’re just different.

The AeroPress is the better choice for making coffee for a latte. One possible down side of the AeroPress is that it takes some effort to press the plunger down. Pushing slowly helps but it may be more force than some are capable of using. It is not friendly to arthritic joints or smaller people.

Operation is simple. With filter in place, measure coffee into the tube. Place the maker over a coffee cup. Pour hot water in the tube, stir, wait 20 seconds and insert the plunger. Push it down to extract the coffee. The resulting brew is concentrated, not quite as much so as a shot of espresso but nearly so.

If you simply want a coffee, add hot water to desired strength, sweeten or lighten and delight in. If you like lattes then you need another piece of equipment, a frother.

The simplest way to make foam is to pour 2/3 of a cup of cold milk into a sealable and microwavable container. A hard plastic travel mug with a tight lid works fantastic, as does a pint or half liter Nalgen bottle. When the milk, make sure that it’s cold, is sealed in, shake the thing for about 30 seconds. Remove the lid and microwave for about 20 seconds to set the foam. Either pour the foamed milk into a cup and add the coffee or pour the coffee directly into the travel mug. Instant, low-tech latte.

Non-stout milk works best but has small flavor. 2% milk is a excellent compromise between foam and flavor. Whole milk is not friendly to cold frothing. Again, make sure the milk is cold when you start. Warm milk won’t foam.

The shake and bake method makes foam but it isn’t the micro-bubble foam you’d get from an espresso machine. That may be excellent enough for you. If it’s not, never dread, there are portable frothers that do a better job than many home espresso makers and are light and small enough to pack. The most traveler friendly ones are battery powered mixers. Aerolatte makes a couple of models that come with hard plastic travel cases and run on two AA batteries.

Again, start with cold milk. Insert the frother and mix until you get a excellent foam. You will need a container with at least twice the volume of the milk you initially pour in. For hot foam, make sure that it is microwavable. No stainless allowed. Once you have whipped your foam into shape, microwave for 10 – 20 seconds, depending on how hot you want your drink. Be careful to not overheat the milk as that will collapse the bubbles. Combine the foamed milk with the coffee. Delight in.

The motorized frother will really make stiff enough foam to do a decent cappuccino, while the shake and bake method is only suitable for lattes.

All You Need to Know About Coffee Percolator Types

A coffee percolator is a type of pot used for brewing coffee. Different types of percolators are available depending on their source of heat.

The word “coffee percolator” was derived from the word “percolate,” which means “to cause a solvent to pass through.” The percolator is often used in camping and many outdoor activities.

A coffee percolator works by keeping the boiling water up through a tube, then poured on coffee grounds. This process is repeated until the desired result is achieved.

First place water in the carafe and follow it with coarsely ground coffee beans in the basket. The basket should be covered before heating the coffee. The basket is then used in order to keep the coffee dry, from being deposited inside the container. The glass top determines the amount of coffee done. Once the process is completed, you can discard the coffee grounds.

Percolators have three versions, namely electric, stovetop and microwave percolators.

• Electric Coffee Percolator is the most common type using electricity. It gives out a more consistent brew by stopping it automatically when the coffee is done. It then switches to a warming mode when completed. An electric percolator has a built-in heating element that can be cordlessly used.

• Stovetop Coffee Percolators can cause over-boiling, and therefore a tendency to release the bitterness of coffee. This requires more careful usage.

• Microwave Coffee Percolator is more effective, using 42% less electricity.

Three of the well loved percolators are the Faberware FCP412 Cup Percolator, Cuisinart 6-12 Cup Classic Electric Percolator Model PRC-12 and the MEDELCO PK008 8 cup Glass Stovetop Percolator

The two basic types of coffee percolators are the pressure type and the gravity type percolators.

Pressure Type

The pressure type is usually made out of metals that can be screwed together when used. It has three main sections:

o Lower Section – The water section.
o Mild Section – The place for the raw coffee grounds.
o Upper Section – The place for the resultant coffee.

Some versions of the pressure type have no upper section. The upper tube can be bent in order to deliver the coffee directly into the cup.

How it works.

The pressure type percolator is then placed on a heat source. If the water reaches the boiling point, a steam is formed. It makes a kind of pressure and forces the water into the coffee grounds through a tube. The mixture passes to the upper section for a concentrated coffee result.

Gravity Type

The gravity type percolator continually cycles the boiling brew through the grounds. It uses gravity to buy the desired strength of coffee. The components comprises mainly of:

o A small chamber filled with water at the bottom.
o A vertical tube from the bottom chamber to the pot top.
o A perforated chamber with a coarsely grind coffee at the end of the tube.

How it works.

The pot is placed on a heat source with water. The water should be below the bottom of the coffee chamber where it can pass through the vertical tube over the perforated lid. The water is then seeped through the grounds, leaving the coffee chamber. It will drop back into the lower half of the pot and force it upward. The process repeats as it approaches the boiling point. Finally, the perking action stops.

Different types of coffee percolators are loved with fantastic popularity. It is the favorite brewing method that is both convenient and simple to use. Despite the different varieties that have fallen out with some coffee lovers, coffee percolators still offer a distinct brewing quality and nice aroma of coffee.

Get a Conical Burr Coffee Grinder to Make the Best Coffee

There are several ways to get better coffee. One way is to buy better premium coffee beans, the best being the arabica coffee beans. These premium coffee beans are packed with the best coffee taste. These are available in pre-ground powder form or as whole beans. For the coffee lover, the best coffee comes from grinding the whole coffee bean with your own premium coffee grinder right at home.

If you are really interested in improving the flavor of your coffee, you have to buy a coffee grinder that will give the ability to grind beans on your own. The incredible smell of fresh coffee is generally contained in ungrounded beans. But, after it has been ground, the coffee powder starts to lose its flavor. Coffee will taste best if the beans are ground moments before coffee is brewed.

A conical burr coffee grinder is the best electric coffee grinder available today. It is renowned for its ability to produce uniformly ground beans. This is very vital since uniformly ground coffee offers an even surface area to extract from while brewing coffee.

In addition, when brewing espresso, the conical burr blades supplies uniformly ground coffee that allows for an simpler wetting and packing of coffee grounds in the espresso machine.

What can a conical burr coffee grinder do for you?

The most vital feature of conical burr grinders is that they can grind at a consistent pace while keeping the aroma intact.

Some other advantages of grinding with the state of the art coffee grinders:

1. Reduced heat generation – The amount of heat generated while grounding coffee beans is very minimal in the case of conical burr grinders. The friction that is generated during the grinding when using a conical burr grinder is less because of the mechanics involved in the process. Since heat alters coffee’s flavor, this feature really improves the way your coffee tastes.

2. Fineness in Grinding and consistency – The size of the grind can usually be altered with conical burr grinders from a coarser grind to a very fine grind.

When compared to other coffee grinders, the conical burr coffee grinder is expensive. Additional time and effort is required in cleaning the burrs of this type of grinder.

If you want to make Espresso or Turkish style coffee at your home and still need coffee shop quality, consider investing your money in one of the entry level conical burr coffee grinders. While buying grinders, look out for different ranges of grind settings.

If you are like everyone else, you don’t want the grinder to make a huge noise while grinding coffee beans. Some other grinders with conical burr come with additional add-ons which may cost a small extra. Grind timer and pulse button add-ons will help you transfer coffee directly into the filter. You should also consider the size of the coffee grinder if you don’t have much real estate on your countertop.

If you want the best tasting coffee, and don’t mind paying a premium, you should certainly get what the professionals use – a conical burr coffee grinder.

Caffeine Secret That’s Worth More Than a Cup of Coffee

Cellulite means huge business. In recent years, Americans alone spend close to $100 million annually on products and services that fight off cellulite. And this figure does not even include money spent on exercise equipment and membership fees in gyms. But if only people with cellulite looked for alternative solutions further, they would not have spent a fortune in their struggle against cellulite.

One huge example is coffee. It does sound so unbelievable but the caffeine found in coffee has been scientifically proven to help regulate the growth of cellulite in the body. Basically, the growth of cellulite is caused by poor blood circulation, particularly in the areas near the skin. Coffee can hinder cellulite because the caffeine in it opens passageways and stimulates blood flow.

In fact, caffeine or its derivatives have been an vital ingredient in most cellulite-cutting products. Women who use topical products that contain caffeine have reported that, after a few weeks, an average of about one inch have been reduced from the size of their hips, thighs, arms and other areas that have fatty cellulite deposits.

Another proof that caffeine is indeed becoming known for its effectiveness in dissolving cellulite is the arrival of lingerie laced with caffeine. These stockings are supposed to fight off cellulite while being worn. And although putting caffeine in women’s underwear is not exactly commonplace, some companies have even added moisturizers for a complete skin care treatment.

Caffeine-laced stockings release the substance when the body’s temperature rises. As caffeine is activated, there is an increased blood flow in the affected areas thereby causing the fatty deposits to be burned. And if you question about lasting effects; well, the potency of the caffeine added to this type of lingerie can last for an average of four to five washes.

But, if you do not have the time to go shopping around or if you do not fancy cellulite creams and cellulite-laced stockings, you can choose a more direct approach. If you want to witness the wonders of caffeine in deflating cellulites, you can directly rub caffeine on parts of your body that have unwanted fatty deposits. This means, literally applying coffee on your skin.

To go about applying caffeine on your skin, you just don’t take a handful of coffee granules and rub it on your thighs, hips, or wherever. There is a process involved if you want to use coffee directly on your cellulite. The most common procedure for this is to mix coffee powder or used up grounds with lotion or olive oil. After applying the mixture onto your cellulite areas, wrap those areas with plastic and let stand for about fifteen to thirty minutes. When the time is up, remove the wrap and rinse the areas with warm water. Repeat the procedure for at least two times a week and your cellulite will be remarkably diminished.

According to a research about the direct application of coffee on areas of the body affected by cellulite, more than 70% of all the women subjected to the test have experienced noticeable decrease in the size of cellulite in their bodies, particularly in the thigh area. And in an industry that has a very high level of competition, this rate really means something. Indeed, using coffee to defeat cellulite is effective.

So the next time you question for a cup of coffee, remember that coffee is not just a drink that can perk you up all day and night. It is your ally in attaining a sexier figure. Combine caffeine from coffee with a healthy diet to reduce cellulite in your body. Add products like Celluthin to your regimen and cellulite will be history. Coffee Espresso Machine: Tips for Buying the Perfect One for You

Imagine your favorite chair to relax in his favorite table in the window, holding a hot cappuccino. Delight in the smell and admire the sparkling, frothy top barista to life. It's nice and silent. O noise. Only silence. And this is the best part: the keys in the car is sitting in his closet, even pajamas. And the barista talent, who has learned the art of foam? That's you! You have made a charming coffee shop here in your own home, your own maker. I reckon this is possible? Reckon again! There are a wide variety of espresso machines on the market that are specifically for home use, ranging from very simple and inexpensive, even in the same machinery used for the professional baristas. But, before rushing to invest in machine, it will take some time to do your homework and consider their needs and preferences. How often do you make espresso drinks at home? Are you also drink a lot of coffee? (Some computers have the ability to double the brewing industry.) How vital is the ability to froth milk for you? If you have preferences in the regions, how are you, this helps to reduce the opportunities. Account of the preferences of perhaps how the espresso drinks. For example, my favorite part is Crema espresso shot – the color-Carmel, creamy foam forms completely pulled the shot. After pouring a shot glass cup, most of the cream does not leave, so I machine, which is large enough to accommodate the entire cup, so you can delight in a drink, I vaccine. Here are the basic types of espresso machines on the market: What is a pump maker? This is the best, but more expensive type of machine to buy. Pump Maker is so named because they use the pump keeps the water pressure at the appropriate level, which produces better and more consistent espresso shots. These machines are primarily for commercial use, and are generally very large, heavy and noisy, but you can use at home. About Espresso Machine This machine back and forth to use a plunger or a lever system to maintain the pressure needed to enable a large shot espresso. This type of stove requires small maintenance and is much quieter than the machines and the pump. But, the lever arm may require a fantastic deal of power to the pressure at the appropriate level, and it may take some practice to get the timing down. But if you're willing to try and clarify the process of rewarding a fantastic shot, and a sense of achievement. About espresso machine steam machine of this type is generally smaller, relatively inexpensive and simple to use heat to produce steam and the piston pump or a pressure. Although lower interest rates are certainly steam engines, especially if you are just about the quality of espresso shots, you may notice that steam is always the optimal pressure for better coffee taste. In addition to maintaining the Steam pull two shots and steam milk at the same time, it is sometimes hard. About Moka Pots Such a machine costs less than all of the options, and requires only your stove. Moka pot on two sides with a pot of boiling water and steam pressure, which pushes the boiling water through the espresso, not only drag down the severity of hot. The coffee tastes excellent, but you can not milk foam with a Moka pot, which is not for you, if you really like latte and cappuccino. But if you want a excellent espresso or a shot in the dark coffee (espresso made in the original), and have a limited budget, try to moka pot. Do not dread the high price maker. A moment to consider what daily latte to pay. Latte can cost up to $ 4. If you're like me, an average of five a week. It is $ 975 per year! Over the years can leave the money in advance, as worth the investment – especially given the convenience to delight in your favorite espresso drinks at home. So take a small time to examine each of these options and how to fit the wishes and needs.
